About Nuneaton

Located in northern Warwickshire, England, close to the borders of Leicestershire and West Midlands County, Nuneaton is a market town in the borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth.  By 2021, Nuneaton has grown to become the largest town in Warwickshire, with a population of 94,634 up from 86,552 in the 2011 census.

Formerly called as Etone, a medieval nunnery founded in the 12th century gave the riverfront settlement its current name, Nuneaton. Eventually, the town grew into a major industrial center thanks to the ribbon weaving and coal mining industries.

Author George Eliot spent her early years in the town of Nuneaton, where she was born on a farm on the Arbury Estate in 1819. She writes about Nuneaton in her novel Scenes of Clerical Life (1858). In her honor, The George Eliot Hospital was built. A statue of George Eliot is in the heart of town.

Bedworth, Atherstone, and Hinckley are some of the nearby cities to Nuneaton. Tamworth, Rugby, Coleshill, and Lutterworth are a bit further away.
