About Pembroke

Located in the county of Pembrokeshire, Wales, Pembroke is both a town and a community of 7,552 people. Haverfordwest is the county seat of Pembrokeshire, and both the county and the town take their names from the Cantref of Penfro, which can be translated as “Land’s End” or “headland,” depending on the context.

Henry Tudor, later Henry VII of England, was born in Pembroke, and the town has full of ancient structures including the town walls and complexes and the castle where he was born.

Standing at the end of a peninsula with sea on three sides is the impressive Pembroke Castle, the ruins of a stone medieval fortification built by the Normans in 1093. As well as being the spot where Henry VII of England was born, the castle served as the seat of the powerful Earls of Pembroke. The first known Constable of Pembroke was a man named Gerald de Windsor.
