About Andover

Hampshire is home to the town of Andover (/aendovr/ AN-doh-vr). Located 18 miles (29 km) west of Basingstoke, another significant rail station, the town of Anton is on the River Anton, a major tributary of the Test, and runs parallel to the A303 trunk road at the eastern end of Salisbury Plain. Located 65 miles (105 km) west-southwest of London, it is 105 km (65 miles) north of Southampton and 14 miles (23 km) north of Winchester. Andover, Massachusetts, in the United States has twin towns with Redon, France and Goch, Germany.

There are public, private, and specialized institutions available to local students in the community. There are three public high schools in the area for students in grades 9-12. The oldest school in town, John Hanson Community School (which was once Andover Grammar School) was founded in the 16th century. Other notable local schools include Harrow Way Community School and Winton Community Academy. Rookwood School is a coed and coeducational boarding and day school for students ages 3-18. Farleigh School, a Catholic elementary school, is yet another local autonomous institution. Andover College (previously Cricklade College) is the only secondary institution that offers a sixth-year program.
