Brigg

Brigg is a market town in North Lincolnshire, England, with a population of 5,076 as of the 2001 UK census; this number increased to 5,616 as of the 2011 census. The town is located at the confluence of the Ancholme River and east–west transportation routes in northern Lincolnshire. The town’s full name, Glanford Brigg, is reflected in the surrounding area and local government district with the same name. The urban area of the city includes the nearby hamlet of Scawby Brook.

The primary mode of travel to and from Brigg is by road. The A18 traverses the city from east to west, connecting to the national road network, while the A1084 (Bigby Road) leads to Caistor from the south-east. The M180 circumvents the city, carrying long-distance traffic including the A15 between Lincoln and Hull. The majority of the town’s bus services travel to Scunthorpe and stop in villages along the way. A bus service operates only within the city on Thursdays, transporting passengers to the weekly market.

Brigg railway station is on the Sheffield to Lincoln Line’s Grimsby branch. There are only six trains per week, all of which operate on Saturdays. Despite this, the line is still regularly used for freight transport. A level crossing crosses the A1084.

The Humberside International Airport near Kirmington is approximately 5 miles away.

Although the Ancholme River was once heavily used for transportation, it is now primarily used for recreation. There is no significant passenger or freight transport on the river.
