Scunthorpe
Scunthorpe is a town in the English county of Lincolnshire. The town is a non-parish area governed by the North Lincolnshire unitary authority borough. It is the third most populous community in the county, after Lincoln and Grimsby.
In 2016, the town’s estimated population was 82,334 people. It is the largest steel processing center in the United Kingdom and is also known as the “Industrial Garden Town.” Holly Mumby-Croft is a conservative politician and the representative for Scunthorpe.
Scunthorpe train station is located on the South TransPennine Line, which provides trains between Manchester Airport and Cleethorpes. Scunthorpe station (SCU) is served by two train companies, TransPennine Express and Northern Trains, and has two platforms. TransPennine Express eastbound trains to Cleethorpes use platform 1, while TransPennine Express westbound trains to Manchester Airport and Northern westbound stopping trains to Doncaster utilize platform 2. Monday through Saturday, the Northern service is served by TransPennine Express at the beginning and end of the day. The station is managed by TransPennine Express, and lifts were added in 2019 to make it more accessible.
Five miles (8.0 km) south of Scunthorpe, the M180 connects to the city via the M181 and the A1077M. Before the M180 was constructed in 1979, all east–west traffic traversed Keadby Bridge via the A18. The Humberside Airport is easily accessible via the M180 to the east. The bus station is located off of Fenton Street. The bus station is primarily utilized by Stagecoach in Lincolnshire and Hornsby Travel, which operate services within and beyond the city. East Yorkshire provides transportation to Hull and Goole.
