Stourbridge

Stourbridge, located on the River Stour in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in the West Midlands of England, is a bustling market town. Worcestershire was the heart of the British glass industry during the early days of the Industrial Revolution. The population was estimated at 63,298 in the 2011 United Kingdom census.

Around 12 miles (19 kilometers) west of Birmingham is where you’ll find Stourbridge. Stourbridge encompasses the communities of Amblecote, Lye, Norton, Oldswinford, Pedmore, Stambermill, Stourton, Wollaston, Wollescote, and Wordsley and is located in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley on the southwestern boundary of the Black Country and West Midlands conurbation.

A large portion of Stourbridge is made up of residential streets intermingled with parks. Established in 1931, Mary Stevens Park is home to a lake, a bandstand, a cafe, and both grassy and forested areas.

Stourbridge is surrounded by green belt land, and the Clent Hills to the south and southwest Staffordshire and Kinver Edge to the west are close by as well.

The Express & Star is a daily paper, the Stourbridge News is published once a week, and the Stourbridge Chronicle is published monthly (weekly). BBC Birmingham & Black Country and Black Country Live, both of which debuted in 2019, are two more news websites that provide coverage of the region.

Aside from the three BBC Local Radio stations (Hereford and Worcester, BBC Radio Shropshire, and BBC WM), Stourbridge is also served by commercial radio stations transmitting from Wolverhampton, Brierley Hill, and Birmingham.

The County Express newspaper served the Stourbridge area from its inception in the 1860s until the early 1980s. There are microfilm copies of the documents available at the Stourbridge Library.
