About Lyndhurst

New Forest National Park in Hampshire, England is home to the sizable community and civil parish of Lyndhurst /lndhrst/. Tourists flock to this area because it serves as the New Forest’s administrative capital and features a wide variety of unique stores, galleries, cafes, museums, bars, and hotels. Around 14 kilometers (or 9 miles) to the north-east is the city of Southampton, which is the closest major urban area. Lyndhurst’s population increased from 2,973 in the 2000 Census to 3,029 in the 2011 Census. Originally an Old English name, it consists of the elements lind (lime tree) and hyrst (wooded hill).

New Forest District Council is headquartered in Lyndhurst, which has earned the nickname “Capital of the New Forest”[3]. The word “Linhest” was used for the first time to describe Lyndhurst in the Domesday Book in 1086. The Kings House in Lyndhurst is where the Court of Verderers holds court. Alice Liddell, the model for Alice in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is buried at the 1860s-era church of St. Michael and All Angels.
