About Biggleswade

Market town and civil parish Biggleswade is located in Central Bedfordshire, Bedfordshire, England. Located on the Ivel River, some 18 kilometers south-east of Bedford. It had a population of 16,551 in the 2011 United Kingdom census; by mid-2019, it was expected to have grown to 21,700, a rise spurred in part by its convenient transportation links to the capital. Beginning in 2010, the King’s Reach project will build 2,000 new residences in the town’s eastern section.

The main Biggleswade war memorial is located in the downtown area.

Even though there is Neolithic-era evidence of human habitation in the area, the town itself was probably established by the Anglo-Saxons. During the year 2001, a gold Anglo-Saxon coin was discovered on a trail next to the River Ivel. In February 2006, the British Museum made history by purchasing the coin for the highest price ever paid for a British currency.  In the 13th century, King John authorized the opening of a market by issuing a charter for it. Around 40 miles (60 km) north of Central London and 20 miles (30 km) west-southwest of Cambridge is where you’ll find the water tower at Topler’s Hill Biggleswade.

The small town of Holme is a part of the civil parish of Biggleswade. Around 45 minutes is how long it takes for a train to go from Biggleswade station on the East Coast Main Line to reach London. The town is bypassed by the A1, Britain’s Great North Road; the ancient route is designated as the A6001. The B1040 heads north to Potton and St. Ives, while the B659 heads south to Langford and Henlow.
