About Inverurie

Inverurie is located about 16 miles (26 km) north-west of Aberdeen at the confluence of the rivers Ury and Don.

Inverurie is also known as the Heart of the Garioch which is situated in the valley of the River Don in central Aberdeenshire. A distance of only 10 miles (16 km) separates you from the towering peak of Bennachie, which is located between the rivers Don and Ury. Inverurie Town Hall, constructed in 1863, stands in the triangular town center.  The Inverurie and District War Memorial stands in the middle of the’square’ (as it is known locally) with a lone Gordon Highlander perched atop it. The Market Place and West High Street, which radiates out from the downtown area toward the residential neighborhoods, are the main shopping districts. The Royal Burgh of Inverurie includes the village of Port Elphinstone to the south of the River Don; the village was given its current name because of its proximity to the former Aberdeenshire Canal, which connected Inverurie and Aberdeen.
