About Pontypridd

Pontypridd’s electoral wards are as follows: Cilfynydd, Glyncoch, Graig, Hawthorn, Pontypridd Town, Rhondda, Rhydyfelin Central/Ilan (Rhydfelen), Trallwng (Trallwn), and Treforest (Trefforest). Nonetheless, the town’s Cilfynydd and Glyncoch wards are located in the Cynon Valley Senedd constituency and the Cynon Valley UK parliamentary constituency, respectively. This modification took effect in the 2007 election for the Welsh Assembly and the 2010 election for the United Kingdom at large.

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, located slightly to the south of town, marks the point where the River Rhondda meets the River Taff at the confluence of the two valleys.

A total of around 32,700 people called Pontypridd home as per the 2011 census. According to the 2011 census, the population of Pontypridd Town ward was 2,919.

The town is located on the north-south A470 dual-carriageway between Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil. Both the A470 and the A4054, which go north and south through the center of town, follow the Taff Valley. To reach Llantrisant and Pencoed, head south on the A473. The A4058 leads westward along the Rhondda River to the town of Porth and the Rhondda Valley beyond.
