About Peebles
You can find Peebles (Scottish Gaelic: Na Pùballan)[3] in the southern part of Scotland, known as the Scottish Borders. It was the county seat of Peeblesshire and a royal burgh in the past. The population in June of 2018 was predicted to be around 9,000, up from the estimated 8,376 in the 2011 census.
Located where the River Tweed and Eddleston Water meet is the town of Peebles (locally called “the Cuddy”). Near the junction, the Tweed moves from west to east while the Eddleston comes down from the north before turning southwest for another 300 yards (270 meters).
Peebles, Scotland, was a market town in the 19th and early 20th centuries, when it became important to the Borders’ textile industry. Most mills shut down by the 1960s, although one held on until 2015. Peebles is now home to many individuals who commute to Edinburgh for employment, and it is also a popular tourist destination, particularly in the summer. Peebles Hydro Hotel is one of the few remaining examples of the type of hydropathic enterprise that was popular throughout the middle to late 19th century and eventually took on the hotel structure
