About Leigh-On-Sea

Leigh-on-Sea is a town and civil parish in the City of Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. It is often commonly referred to as just “Leigh.” Population in 2011: 22,509.

Leigh-on- The open seas of the North Sea are only a few miles away to the east, while the coast of Kent is only a similar distance away to the south from Sea, which is on the northern side of the Thames Estuary. There is a natural preserve on Two Tree Island just off the coast of town, and there is also a beach right next to Bell Wharf in the town’s geographic center. Leigh’s coastline contains a large area of mud flats and creeks that reach out to sea at low tide, all the way to where the Thames deep water channel begins (Yantlet Channel). Leigh is located in the London commuter zone and is around 40 miles (65 kilometers) from downtown London through road and rail networks.

The Leigh-on-Sea train station is on the London, Tilbury, and Southend route and provides service to the town. Southend-on-Sea is connected to Benfleet, Canvey Island, Basildon, Rayleigh, and Chelmsford via frequent bus routes that run every day. The adjacent London Southend Airport provides scheduled flights to domestic and European destinations.
