About Pershore

Located on the banks of the River Avon in Worcestershire, England, the market town and civil parish of Pershore is a part of the Wychavon area. There were 7,125 people living there as of the 2011 census. Pershore Abbey is the town’s main attraction. Location: in the Vale of Evesham, 6 miles (10 km) west of Evesham and 6 miles (10 km) east of Upton-upon-Severn.

Georgian style buildings can be found in the city. Pershore was recognized as an exceptional conservation area by the Council for British Archaeology in 1964, when it was named one of the fifty-one “Gem Towns” in Britain deserving of special attention for historic preservation. A large section of the abbey, located on public grassland not far from the town’s core, was built in the 11th century. The original building was looted during Henry VIII’s Dissolution; therefore, the current construction is much smaller. There is no trace of the former nave. There was a further collapse of the north transept. Part of what was once the choir has been converted into the present-day nave on the western side of the building. .
